A downloadable game for Windows

The Other Side of Despair (TOSOD) is a moddable top-down pixel RPG inspired by the games The Witcher 3 and Elden Ring, anime titles Ergo Proxy, Haibane Renmei, Kino no Tabi, Monster, and Samurai Champloo, and classic Russian literature, such as Crime and Punishment and The Cherry Orchard.

Experience a story-rich game where choices matter extremely, learn new spells and skills, make friends, and fight opponents on your quest to understand and maybe save the dying fantasy world.

Many hundred years ago, the three legendary Dragonriders came to this fairy-domain and founded three man-countries. The times were not kind to these countries, and to make things worse, an ominous curse of malicious sorcery — the so-called “Dark Veil”  — appeared one day on the horizon and now threatens to consume the whole world unless someone finds a way to stop it.

Two playable characters: you choose one to play as, and another one becomes your companion, friend, or maybe something more.

A non-linear plot with multiple routes and many side-quests, but your in-game time is limited, and you have to make tough decisions.

A taxing combat system designed to be unforgiving, inspired by Getting Over It and souls-like games.

A fantasy world of islands floating in the sky that are moving around and can both speed you up or slow you down on your quest.

The game supports mods. In fact, the whole default plot is written as a JSON file and can be read and modified easily. However, modding the game is not recommended before you finish the plot.

This game is currently in development, and the goals are:

  1. To produce a demo version that will have most features, such as combat, quests, dialogs, etc, but only one location, something like 2-5 soundtracks and something like 10 illustrations
  2. Run a Kickstarter campaign when the demo is ready
  3. Depending on the amount of funding, finish the game or not. The amount of content will depend on the amount of funding
